2024 - 20th July - how much ( part 2) or Highway to Hell...

Well hubby had his steroid injection in his hip so hopefully pain free for a while at least, was given a sick note for a week, asked about driving (he is a bus driver) was told no by three different medical professionals yet letting work know got the usual responses back...

...as soon as he got the sick note, hubby gave them 14 hours notice that he wouldn't be at work today yet got a sarky comment back about letting them know just 1 hour before the start of his shift today...

The taxi booked going was a local firm cost there for 15.5 miles was £38 and the cost back was a different firm cost £31, the driving was extremely dangerous, coming back through narrow country lanes instead of the main road, reading reviews online, this is usual standard so probably no point complaining about that anyway...

Put it this way, I've always been scared of going on the big one rollercoaster at Blackpool, should be a doddle after the return journey home, where do taxi drivers learn to drive, brand's hatch FFS

On a local community group, I had enquired if the cost of a taxi there and back was the going rate and had some replies back, one of them was from a taxi driver and sarkily mentioned about the cost of living and having to put food on the table, really?

At £70 for a return journey and the £10 clean air zone charge to come out of that, which is £10 per day btw, thats not £10 each journey for each customer...

(so ten fares would be £700? plus airport runs at £80 one way) especially with a new car so yes I can see how they are struggling...

Apparently there was an ex-bus driver who left to go taxi driving and said he was now earning £300 a day...

Useful info from Sheffield council website on taxi costs, no doubt there is similar info depending on you local council

https://www.sheffield.gov.uk/sites/default/files/docs/business/taxi-licensing/Hackney%20Carriage%20Fares%20Chart.pdf

So what about people paying the taxi fares, don't you think they might be struggling to put food on the table as well and pay bills with a week's wages at statutory sick of £116.75 a week less 3 days to stand?

Luckily there is the Too Good to Go app....
