Drains -
The blocked sewer drain is finally unblocked not thanks to either Yorkshire Water, who seem to think that a wait from thursday through to tuesday is acceptable when you have literally shit coming out from the toilet onto the pathway outside your door!
They did initially come out and very proud that they had unblocked it but less than 24 hours later it was blocked again!
They had gone down next door's manhole instead of ours, our bathroom is only joined to the main drains on one side not both!
So on easter sunday dinnertime, we called Homeserve who phoned up and we answered questions if we had been abroad and if anyone in the house was self-isolating or had a cough etc etc.
Anyway he turned up and we spoke through the open porch window and at least he did find our manhole but even though on the website it mentions jetting drains etc, all he arrived with was just a basic sets of drain rods with a plunger on the end and all he did was push the blockage further up towards the house!
He said he was going to write a report and was I okay for him to give me a quote to dig up the porch? nearly a week later, nothing back...
Anyway I contacted a third company, a cleaning company who got Police clearance to attend, they arrived within the hour, unblocked our drains and lifted all the neighbours manhole at the same time to establish where the drains ran from each house and to make sure all drains were clear!
A great job done considering this was their first time unblocking drains!
Unlike Homeserve who were not interested in the history of the house as it wasn't relevant, erm yes it was, as many years ago the bathroom was an addition to the house and I have plans of where the drains go under the house.
So the third company before even arriving on site had a copy of the plans and photo of the postition of the manhole and when they arrived on site, were able to go straight to it, job done!
Leaking Chimney -
that first leaked on 16th February into the bedroom, before lockdown on 23rd March but it hasn't yet been fixed...so we can't decorate but if it had been fixed, we couldn't decorate if we wanted to, it seems you can't buy paint...
Shopping - I have managed to get a shopping slot, there were about 15 subsitutions but it wasn't a problem, I didn't make an issue over it, just grateful
we are getting food, there were some items we didn't get so went out later that day to a local, small shopping centre. In Iceland, the floor was marked out but people were just walking past you, a young man, then an old man, then a woman, you can tell them to wait but you just get abuse back so no point...
...it was the first time I had been out in 16 days and hopefully it will be another 16 days before I need to go shopping again! Hubby is now on Furlough, so less money but still bills to pay, we will manage.
Covid-19 -
There is lots of info on Covid-19 on the internet, you don't need me to share anymore here, there are rules/guidance/laws? about what we should and shouldn't do, interpret it as you see fit...
...we all have our own opinions about the other people and the government should be doing or not doing...
The other day, a medical person actually phoned up and asked how I was, as a routine health appointment had been cancelled the day before, so that was good to be able to talk about things...
Have a good weekend and stay safe
Jo
