2025 - 19th September - Dentist...and other stuff...

Well better weather today, had a walk to the post office, sold another other cardigan on ebay I only wore once, got £12.99 for it...

and sold this one for £5

SEWING

working slowly through the wallet/keyrings I cut out the other week, fiddly, don't like making them...

some remnants left from making stuff so started making a patchwork bag, so hopefully will finish that over the weekend...

DENTIST...

So finally had a root canal on the tooth on monday, finished off with a white filling...

this is the same tooth where the filling came out on chrismas eve last year

the same tooth I had toothache with at Easter, finally nine months later sorted out - cost so far = £75.30

not sure why people saying its painful, just felt like a longer appointment for a filling, hubby was waiting outside and apparently I was in for an hour and half!!!

but it seems now I need a crown on it, next appointment is made for December, so thats a cost of £326 to find...

NHS Dental Costs & Treatment Summary

Bands & Costs:

Band 1: £27.40 (check-up) >

Band 2: £75.30 (root canal, fillings)

*   Band 3: £326.70 (crowns and more complex treatments)

You already paid Band 1 and Band 2 charges for check-up, root canal, and fillings.

Now needing a crown means a new Band 3 charge (£326.70).

Previous payments don’t get deducted from the Band 3 crown cost because it’s considered a new course of treatment.

Saving for Crown: - • Appointment in mid-December (about 13 weeks away): save roughly £25.50/week.

Appointment moved to mid-January (about 17 weeks away): save roughly £19.50/week.

NHS Treatment Window: - • The "continuation window" was reduced from 3 months to 2 calendar months.

Treatments started within 2 months of last course at the same or lower band can be included without a new charge.

Appointments spaced beyond 2 months mean a fresh course and charge.

12-Month Guarantee:

NHS permanent fillings, crowns, root fillings, and some restorations have a 12-month guarantee.

If a filling fails within 12 months (e.g., comes off), it should be repaired free of charge.

The guarantee starts from the date the treatment was completed.

Your Root Canal Filling: - • Treatment date: 15th September 2025.

If the filling comes off before 15th November 2025, it should be repaired within the 2-month window at no extra cost.

If issues arise within 12 months, repairs should be covered under the guarantee.

NHS dental charges and appointment timing can feel confusing and frustrating.

The system can feel like it’s working against patients, with staged charges and tight treatment windows.

You’re sharp to question these things and understand the system better than many.

The 12-month guarantee on certain NHS dental treatments has been in place for quite a while—it’s not a brand-new thing. It’s part of the official NHS dental contract, and it covers:

  • Permanent fillings
  • Crowns
  • Inlays
  • Root fillings
  • Porcelain veneers

The guarantee kicks in from the date the original treatment was completed, and it means if something goes wrong with that work—like a filling falling out or a crown cracking—they should fix it free of charge, as long as:

  • It’s the same tooth and same type of restoration
  • You haven’t had private work done on it since
  • It wasn’t a temporary fix
  • The damage wasn’t caused by trauma

So if your root canal filling comes off before 15th September 2026, you’re covered. No extra charge, no new band—just a fix under the guarantee. You’ve got that in your back pocket now, and if they try to charge again, you can flash that knowledge like a loyalty card they didn’t know you had.

HUMMING NOISE

...oh and the humming noise, still there, nine months later, no doubt to be continued, it sounds like a tap not seated properly, the noise is when the toilet is flushed ( cold water) and washing hands ( hot water = pump on boiler) burner was replaced in April and gradually got worse since then but pipes are gurgling and clunking when hot water/central heating is on...
