2022 - 31st August - useful information

A very worrying time at the moment with the cost of living crisis...

Looking for information about the £400 grant from the government to help with energy bills this winter and found this information, hope it's useful to someone...

https://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/consumer/energy/energy-supply/complain-about-an-energy-company/check-the-prepayment-rules-your-supplier-has-to-follow/

and I googled "is the price cap legal?" and found this...

https://goodlawproject.org/news/sue-ofgem-price-cap-failure/

This is a link to the Ofgem website...

https://www.ofgem.gov.uk/publications/ofgem-confirms-changes-price-cap-methodology-and-frequency-ahead-new-rate-be-announced-later-month

and to the Gov UK website

There are plenty of other links to read as well...

Q) Can I be charged more than the energy price cap?

A) If you're on a default tariff and the cap is lower than your current cost per unit of energy, your supplier will have to lower their rates. In the same way, if the cap levels go up, your supplier is likely to increase your rates to these levels, so you could be charged more

What is the Priority Services Register?

Our Priority Services Register is a free support service for people who may be vulnerable – perhaps because of their age, health or disability, or if they’re going through a difficult time in their lives.

When you register

By registering, you can receive services such as large print or Braille bills and free gas safety checks. We will also share your data with your network operator, who will get in touch if your electricity supply is going to be interrupted. They’ll help you figure out what to do to stay safe.

Braille and audio letters (Energy & Home Services customers)

We can provide bills, statements and letters in Braille or large print or on a CD for you to listen to. Or we can call you to talk you through them.

Free gas safety checks

You may be eligible for free gas appliance checks if you are a pensioner, disabled, chronically sick or under 18; or if you live with a child under five.
